Hace unos meses nos encontrábamos con mi esposo en búsqueda de algo diferente para hacer en Retalhuleu (costa guatemalteca al sur del país). Nos subimos al carro e íbamos sin rumbo aparente, hasta que vimos un cartelito por ahí que decía hacia ruinas... seguimos por un tiempo en el camino hasta que después de algunos cruces llegamos a Takalik Abaj.

Few months ago we were with my hubby searching for some place different to go in Retalhuleu (guatemalan south coast). We got in the car without knowing where to go exactly, until we saw some signs at the road...we followed them and then we finally arrived to Takalik Abaj.
Ese lugar con nombre extraño que quiere decir "Piedra Parada" del que nunca había escuchado antes existe desde los años 1000-800 a.C. Siempre me había preguntado por qué por lo general en este tipo de ciudades mayas hay muchas plazas y no lugares donde hayan habitado personas, según Jacobo, el guía, amablemente nos explicó que seguramente estas plazas eran complementadas con ranchos muy parecidos a los que hoy conocemos y son tan comunes en todo el país.

That place with such strange name, that I have never heard from, means "Standed Stone". It stands there since 1000-800 bC. I have always asked myself why in this maya cities there are always a lot of plazas and there are not houses made of stone, Jacobo, our kind guide, explained to us that houses were probable made of palm branches, such as the ranchs we can find today around the country.
Esta es una de las piedras que se encuentran en el lugar, esta es de especial interés porque es de un material que no se encuentra en los alrededores, se sospecha que fue algún regalo de alguna otra civilización.

This is one of the rocks we find at this place, this rock has a special fact because it is made from a material that no one can find near by, they suspect that it was a gift from another civilization.
Seguramente has escuchado que "todos los caminos conducen a Roma" pero puede que encuentres algunos tesoros escondidos en tu camino, tal y como lo es Takalik Abaj en Retalhuleu, Guatemala. Deberías de visitarlo :)
